NEW START: Eight principles of health

Nutrition

The best diet for human beings consists of fruit, vegetables, grains, seeds and nuts. By eating a wholefood plant based diet (unrefined and without additives) many diseases can be prevented and even reversed.

Exercise

Your body is a marvellous machine. Putting your body to work can increase your physical strength and resistance to disease. Studies show that exercise will  improve your outlook in life.

A well balanced and well planned program is one of the wisest investments you can make. Choose an activity that you enjoy and put aside time every day to do it. Have fun and feel better every day!

Water

Water is a major component of the blood. About 70% of your total weight is water. Your body uses water for cleansing and cooling itself, and to maintain a proper chemical balance.

You lose water when you perspire, when you breathe and through body waste. A loss of 20% of your body’s water could even prove fatal.

Drink abundantly and bathe regularly for good health and vitality.

Sunlight

One of the most healing agents of nature is one of the least understood and least used methods of therapy today. The benefits of sunlight are many:

The sun transforms cholesterol found just under the skin to Vitamin D.
Bacteria and viruses are destroyed
Blood pressure is lowered and much more

The therapeutic effects of the ultraviolet rays occur just below the level of the skin, so don’t burn!

Temperance

Also known as self-control, is having a totally healthy and balanced lifestyle in every way. It includes the proper ratio of work to play, personal time versus time with family and friends, right thinking, right eating, time spent with God…

Temperance is moderation in every sphere of our lives. It includes more than just avoiding drugs, alcohol and overeating. True self-control is avoiding those things that are harmful and using in moderation those things that are good.

Air

Air crucial to our health. We can live weeks without food, days without water, but only minutes without air. The strength of our bodies is dependant, to a large degree, upon the amount of pure air we breathe. Lack of oxygen at a cellular level may play a role in the development of various degenerative diseases. By breathing deeply of fresh air, the oxygen level of the cells is increased and thereby the body functions are increased.

Rest

Rest is one of the most basic healers known to mankind. When you become sick, what is the first thing you would normally do? You lie down! The restorative power of rest is a key to the success of all other remedial agencies.

One of the reasons many people have nervous  breakdowns is that they try to surpass and have the supremacy, so they go at high speed, without adequate rest, until the body machinery breaks under the load.

Trust in divine power

Trying to make changes in our lifestyle we can sometimes become discouraged. However, it is encouraging to know that we don’t have to try to make it alone, that we have a never failing Helper who is more interested in our health and wellbeing than we are.

That friend is Jesus. He identifies with your discouragement and He will give you victory in your struggle to make changes.

His promises are certain: “Beloved I wish above all things that you may prosper and be in good health.” 3 John 2
